Module Ten - Blog: Video Review





1. Explain why you selected each of the TWO videos you choose from the selection listed above.

I am an African raised in America so I wanted to know more about African mask and art.

2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.

African Art: Legacy of Oppression: glorify their chiefs and mothers, most of their acts are magical, Masks are magical art of Africans, most of their mask were made to scare people especially scare their enemies during fights. Many African art works were brought to Europe by their colonel masters.

African Art: art is part of the people of Africa daily life it defines expression in cloths and hair. Many of African arts were used in ceremonies, and some provide historic deaths. Expresses ideas rather than realism, and African arts are conceptual and the power of symbolism is much important.

3. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?

The videos relate to the reading in a way that both talks about the origin of African art and the meaning to their art. Also, both show how African arts are not natural but primitive.

4. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?
I liked both video and how they all explain African art and its symbolic meaning. The video adds depth in understanding the reading by showing how most of African arts are made and the reason behind each art.
