1. Explain why you selected each of the TWO videos you
choose from the selection listed above.
I am an African raised in America so I wanted to know more
about African mask and art.
2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
African Art:
Legacy of Oppression: glorify their chiefs and mothers, most of their acts are
magical, Masks are magical art of Africans, most of their mask were made to
scare people especially scare their enemies during fights. Many African art
works were brought to Europe by their colonel masters.
African Art: art
is part of the people of Africa daily life it defines expression in cloths and
hair. Many of African arts were used in ceremonies, and some provide historic
deaths. Expresses ideas rather than realism, and African arts are conceptual and
the power of symbolism is much important.
3. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
The videos relate to the reading in a way that both talks
about the origin of African art and the meaning to their art. Also, both show
how African arts are not natural but primitive.
4. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth
to understanding of the readings and art concepts?
I liked both video and how they all explain African art and
its symbolic meaning. The video adds depth in understanding the reading by
showing how most of African arts are made and the reason behind each art.
