Module Twelve

1. Explain why you selected each of the TWO videos you choose from the selection listed above.

I selected Uncertainty: Modernity and Art, and The Power of Art because the title were very catchy and was curious to know how they might relate to the readings in the textbook.

2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.

The Power of Art: Rothko: In the 1920's, Rothko's early paintings indicate a "knotted imagination."Also, Rothko's murals, though never hung in the Seagram building, awakened the art world to an American genius whose art transcended that of most 20th-century painters. In addition, Rothko’s engagement with timeless themes dominated his thinking long after the mythic grandeur of Abstract Expressionism had yielded to the calculated banality of Pop. Finally, he was the greatest living American painter.

Uncertainty: Modernity and Art: The video shows how the Nazis tried to eradicate modern art’s uncertainties with some crushing certainties of their own; and shows how modern art’s relationship with modern life changed. Also, modern art is contemporary society's version of the Delphic Oracles, and modern art documents the metamorphosis of mankind.

2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?

Both videos relate to the readings in the text in a way that it showed how modern art influence the art word.

3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?

I enjoyed watching both video and it showed how modern arts reflects the changes in mankind
